Getting Started Guide

A complete beginner's guide to Worduel. Learn the basics and start your word guessing journey.

Your First Game

To start playing Worduel, simply enter your name and click "Play". You can choose to play the daily word challenge or select a previous day's word. Once you start, you'll see the game interface with a guess input field.

Type any word and submit it as your first guess. The game will show you the rank of your guess—a number indicating how semantically similar your word is to the secret word. Lower ranks mean your word is more similar, so rank 1 is the most similar word possible.

Understanding the Interface

The game interface shows your guesses and their ranks. Each guess appears with its rank number, helping you understand how close you are to the target word. Use this feedback to refine your next guesses. The interface also shows your guess count and provides access to hints if available.

In multiplayer games, you'll see other players' guesses and their ranks, giving you additional information to work with. The leaderboard shows scores in real-time, so you can see how you compare to others.

Basic Gameplay Mechanics

Worduel is about semantic similarity, not letter matching. Your goal is to find words that are similar in meaning to the secret word. Start with broad category words to identify the semantic field, then narrow down with synonyms and related concepts. Continue guessing until you find the exact secret word.

Remember that words with similar meanings will have similar ranks. If "ocean" ranks at 50, words like "sea" or "water" will likely rank nearby. Use these patterns to guide your guesses and systematically explore the semantic space around the target word.

Building Confidence

As a new player, don't worry about getting the exact word immediately. Use rankings to guide you and learn from each guess. Every ranking tells you something about the semantic relationships between words. With practice, you'll develop semantic intuition and improve your guessing accuracy.

Play regularly to build confidence. Start with the daily word challenge to practice consistently. Try playing previous days' words to practice without time pressure. Join multiplayer games to learn from other players and observe different strategies.
